etnies | China Tour

Nanjing, Xi’an and Changsha, China featuring Chris Joslin, Nick Garcia, Ryan Lay, Barney Page, and Trevor McClung. After a 14-hour flight over the Pacific en route to China, the etnies team finally arrived in Nanjing to meet their trusty guides. The crew immediately embarked upon the streets to skate China’s infamous marble landscape in skate spot heaven. The days were filled with jam-packed demos (thanks to the locals!), dodging the rain, Chinese food every night, meat markets, sightseeing Xi’an’s Terracotta Army and tuk tuks whisking them from to and fro. Etnies Demo | Wear Test Spain & France

Etnies are delighted to announce that Chris Joslin – along with Ryan Lay, Barney Page and Nassim Lachhab, will be flying over to Europe this week to attend two demos/wear tests to coincide with his first pro shoe in Bilbao and Bordeaux respectively. These guys are on fire at the moment so expect plenty of ridiculous skating and positive feedback from the shoe tests.

The concept of the soundtrack for ALBUM was to involve musicians that have been interwoven into the fabric of skateboarding culture for decades and create something original that was inspired by each skater’s style and personality. The most durable skateboarding shoe on the market has partnered with one of the world’s top manufacturers of premium rubber to develop an outsole that is 3X MORE DURABLE. The original Marana was an incredibly durable shoe, but contrary to most skate shoes, the upper was so long lasting that the 400 NBS rubber outsole could not keep up. They were able to identify a weakness in the outsole as an opportunity to make the shoe even better than before and in an effort to continuously improve the world’s most durable skateboarding footwear, etnies joined forces with Michelin to translate the performance and durability of Michelin tires to the outsole of a shoe. 

After Chris Joslin wear tested different rubber compounds, it was the Michelin’s PC00 rally racing compound that stood out among the rest due to the long-lasting formula. The Michelin compound is a premium Outdoor Compound (OC) for greater durability on uneven terrain, strong for stability and with good abrasion resistance. The outsole tread features large tread sculptures for maximum durability, interlock design for better adherence, multiple ¬flex lines for board control and reactivity, deep grooves for weight reduction, and a high contact surface for support and shock absorption. The Marana sole also features cupsole construction, which creates a thicker barrier between the skater and the board. Together, these features make the new Marana the toughest on the market for high performance skateboarding.
