Jorge Simoes takes 1st in Saturday’s finals

The sea breeze off the Mediterranean did little to cool today’s finals of the Nike SB Barcelona AM at Skate Agora.
Qualified amateur riders from yesterday’s heats and semis took to the park from early afternoon to lock down lines and tricks in order to try and scoop part of the €10,000 prize money and a ticket to the Nike SB Berlin Open for the ultimate super final winner.
Taking to the course in groups of 3, the level of speed and technicality was raised another level from the off. Robin Bolian tore around the park on a mission eating up the end quarter pipe, Marek Zaprazny Nollie bs flip down the stairs, nollie front heel over the bump to bumpn and Phil Zwijsen took an incredible 2 and a half minute run but wasn’t good enough in the judges eyes to put him in the top 3.
The super final saw Gard Hvaara, Jorge Simoes and Gustavo Ribeiro go head to head in what turned out to be rail and stair battle which was ultimately taken by Simoes helped by a 180 switch crook and backside over crook down the rail.
1st Jorge Simoes 2nd Gustavo Ribeiro 3rd Gard Hvaara,
Before prize giving the best trick saw traditional hammers and no hopers being thrown down the stairs, ledge and rail in the best trick.

Nike SB 2016 Barcelona AM | Day 1

Nike SB 2016 Barcelona AM | Day 1

The first stop of the Nike SB European Series, the Barcelona AM, got lit up yesterday at the Skate Agora plaza BDN. Qualifiers saw 20 skaters bounce through to meet up with 32 pre-qualified in a flood-lit semis.
An on form and up for it crowd filled the eastern bleachers and created noise throughout the day cranking the energy on the park and AMs that tore it up.

Qualifiers were 78 deep and competition was tough with so few semi spots up for grabs. Young Jonas Carlsson from Norway surprised and stoked out everyone with man sized tricks out of a 13 year old boys body and Brazilian Ivan Moteiro took charge of the park in his heat with a faultless run, giving him a pass to semis and then landing the right side of the cut in to Saturday’s main event.

The semi finals upped the ante with a line up of Europe’s top AMs stepping up to try and secure a spot in the finals. With a variety of styles and tricks on display judges were saying that it was one of the toughest comps to score. Farid Ulrich got his position in finals with smooth, fast and stylish flow. Phil Zwijsen used the whole park with solid consistency but Vincent Milou goes into tomorrow’s final in first place out of a 12 man start list who will compete for part of the €10,000 purse on offer.

Doors open at Skate Agora for tomorrow’s finals at 5.30 PM with the comp starting at 6.30. Entrance is free.

Jaakko Ojanen | Element European Team

Jaakko Ojanen | Element European Team

Welcome part by Jaakko Ojanen as the new addition to Element Europe team .
Jaakko is a from Tampere, Finland. He skates fast, with style and power. And it seems that his bag of tricks is endless. The part is 100% made of Instagram clips. Which is pretty nuts as some of this tricks are most skaters part's enders.
