Vans Park Series, the premier park terrain skateboarding tour in the world, today announced the 2019 Pro Tour schedule. Anticipating another historic season in competitive skateboarding culminating into the World Championships, the Vans Park Series (VPS) will touch down in five major countries this year, expanding its programming to equally represent four global Pro Tour qualifiers for men and women, and sustaining its commitment to endorsing prize parity for both divisions.

“Our mission to inspire youth and grow skateboarding participation around the world by promoting skateboarding’s unique and creative culture remains our number one goal,” said Bobby Gascon, global director of action sports, Vans. “With Vans Park Series now in its fourth consecutive year, we are dedicated to growing the foundation for park terrain skateboarding competition and cultivating an elite class of professional athletes who are deserving of international recognition.”

Vans Park Series | Europa Continental Championship

Malmö, SWEDEN (September 7, 2018) – The 2018 Vans Park Series Europa Continental Championships kicked off a fierce competition of regional talent in Malmö, Sweden, welcoming more than 75 competitors in total from the men and women divisions to compete at the historic first-ever VPS-certified Kroksbäck Skatepark. Transcending the competition and reaping the glory for their respective countries, Simon Karlsson (SWE) and Amelia Brodka (POL) won the Europa Continental Championships, securing their invites to the VPS World Championships in China. Special mention to Vans Team riders Sam Beckett & Shani Bru respectively for both hitting the podium in 3rd place.

Sweden’s own Simon Karlsson impressed the judges with a clean kickflip wallride on the tombstone to take first place, while Amelia Brodka defended her Continental Championship title after winning in 2017, and accomplished a well-deserved back-to-back win thanks to her strong combinations of frontside airs and ollie smiths on the big bank. The 2018 Europa Continental Champions will be pre-seeded directly into the World Championships lineup, joining Select Pros and advancing Tour Challengers for the final gauntlet in China this October.

Up next this weekend, the 2018 VPS Pro Tour for men and women continues with the final qualification rounds for VPS challengers to best their rankings from the overall tour and claim their coveted spot in the World Championships race. With only a handful of spots left for the taking, United States’ Roman Pabich and Japan’s Sakura Yosozumi are in the lead based on current VPS Challenger rankings, and will definitely be the ones to watch for the remainder of the series.

Pedro Barros took first place → VPS Vancouver Finals

Higher, faster, stronger, and full of surprises—today’s incredible Vans Park Series men’s professional park terrain skateboarding competition at the iconic Hastings Skatepark in Vancouver, BC unleashed some of the best lines in VPS history. With close score exchanges during the finals by talent from all over the world, Vans Park Series congratulates defending VPS Men’s Pro Tour, Canada winner Pedro Barros (BRA) for the Brazilian native’s back to back Vancouver victory. Barros’ sharp focus delivered massive runs at unstoppable speeds (including a monstrous backside 540 on the hipped spine), achieving the only 90-point run in the Mother Hastings course. Barros celebrates two podium appearances in the 2018 VPS season so far after earning 2nd place at last month’s VPS Pro Tour, Brazil event, with no signs of slowing down.

2016 VPS Pro Tour, Canada winner Ivan Federico (ITA) makes a comeback onto the VPS podium, utilizing every opportunity to land difficult trick combinations and consistent lines to claim second place. And in a last-minute podium shakedown, rising star Trey Wood (USA)saw glory snatched away by veteran Alex Sorgente (USA), who squeezed into third place during his final run of the contest.

Driving the pressure throughout the event, hungry tour rookies such as semi-finals leader Jagger Eaton (USA) and contest prodigy Keegan Palmer (AUS), left the field shook, bringing a new level of technicality and unpredictability in the race to the VPS World Championships. Next stop, Huntington Beach!
