Madars Apse | in Japan - SKATE TALES

Madars Apse | in Japan - SKATE TALES

Takahiro Morita is a very different sort of skateboarder, really. Japanese skating has changed the coastline of possibility in skateboarding, mostly thanks to the FESN movement. The Far East Skate Network’s videos brought the new Japanese way of seeing and of being to the wider skateboarding world, thereby making all of skateboarding society more imaginative- and maybe a little kinder, too. Takahiro is the brains behind the FESN, and someone more personally responsible for opening up the concept of what skating can be today than almost anyone else in recent years. From cruising Tokyo to dazzling the Japanese art world, his considered approach to what skateboarding can mean makes him one of the most genuinely unique minds which skate culture has produced, full stop. Madars Apse simply had to meet him!

The Story Of Double-Amputee Pro Skater Felipe Nunes | SKATE TALES

Felipe Nunes is a 22-year old skater from Curitiba in Brazil. Aged just six, he lost both legs while playing on train tracks. After five years in a wheelchair, he was given a longboard to get around on. That longboard would become a skateboard- and the rest is history. In a short space of time he was competing in and winning contests against all-comers within his native Brazil. People began to notice just how talented he really was. Aged eighteen, Felipe felt ready to make it beyond Brazil and started a social media fund to enter Tampa Am. Tony Hawk championed his cause, and Felipe was headed to Florida. Incredibly, he made the Semi’s, and finished 21st overall as the only adaptive skater in the contest! Felipe had the skateboarding world’s attention, and soon joined Tony’s brand Birdhouse Skateboards.

RED BULL PARIS CONQUEST | THE JAM SESSION

RED BULL PARIS CONQUEST | THE JAM SESSION

They hit the streets of Paris to check out some classic Parisian spots with TJ Rogers, Lucas Rabelo, Angelo Caro, Gustavo Ribeiro & more as they get ready for the Red Bull Paris Conquest! Paris has a skateboarding history dating back to the 1970’s both at the Trocadero where slalom was all the rage (as immortalised by the 1978 short film Trocadero Blue Citron) and at the Beton Hurlant skatepark and Bowl de la Villette. It wasn’t until the mid-1980’s, however, that skaters began to explore the city streets beyond the Trocadero, discovering new playgrounds like ‘Le Dome’, Chatelet, La Defense, Creteil, Bercy and so many others. For the Paris Conquest event they recreated some of the French capitol's most famous skate spots in a unique street course at the foot of the Eiffel Tower.

Tim Débauché | 'Opus I' Rough Cut

Tim Débauché | 'Opus I' Rough Cut

Tim Débauché is 100% skateboarder: he eats, sleeps and breathes skateboarding. As with every skateboarder, Tim has had his fair share of physical issues: growth spurts led to a year off through endless knee pain, graduating to the curse of the flip trick generation: ankle problems. Notwithstanding those costs of doing business, Tim has depth to his skating game and proved it with his recently-released ‘Opus 1’ part. This is Tim’s first full video part, no doubt foreshadowing many more to come. Steady video output from him would be a win all-round - you really don’t see his level of style and touch every day. Enjoy!
