Lost In Carranza | Documentary

Lost In Carranza | Documentary

At the age of 18, Pablo Carranza was regarded as one of the top skateboarders of his generation. Soon, he made the front cover of magazines and all the sponsors were after him. Thrasher and Deluxe Distribution took him under their wing. The future looked bright, with a brilliant career ahead of him. But one day, things changed dramatically. Pablo was arrested for theft and assault with a knife on a security guard, and put in jail. When his sponsors got the news, they fired him. He came out of jail a few months later and decided to give up skateboarding for graffiti. Slowly, he was taking the road to hell in the streets of San Francisco, not aware that he was losing his soul into drugs...

Today, ten years later, Pablo is a better man. He is sober, stronger and unstoppable. He is determined to win his sponsors back. He is starting a new chapter of his life and agreed to talk about his past experience, his addictions and his old demons.

This documentary is a thoughtful portrait on one of the most intriguing personalities skateboarding has produced. In an unprecedented interview Pablo shares his plight, his inspiration and what led him to lead such a positive change in lifestyle.

Directed by Marin Troude

In the night of October 12th 2015, Pablo Carranza falls back into hard drugs despite his sobriety and battle against years of addiction. Alone in his apartment, filled with regret and guilt, he decides to confess by leaving a final voice message for his first love. Struggling in life and prisoner of his own environment, we follow him finding refuge in solitude, religion and hard drugs, anything that could give him the strength to face the harshness of a relentless daily struggle. Through this story of addiction, we wanted to talk about how drugs can affect our dreams, hopes, career and our relationship with others. But unfortunately, every shot in this film is true and Pablo has really fallen back into hard drugs in real life during the shooting. Reality has exceeded fiction despite ourselves and it has been very complicated to finish the film thereafter. This project is different from what we usually see, I think, because we made it from our heart. Today, Pablo is sober and now the time has come to let go of the film. It’s yours. We really hope you will like Lost In Carranza, but more importantly if this film can help some people stop doing drugs, that would be our first victory. Thank you. » Marin Troude Film director You can follow #LostInCarranzaTheMovie on : Facebook: facebook.com/LostInCarranzaTheMovie Twitter: twitter.com/LostInCarranzaTheMovie Instagram: instagram.com/marintroude Musics available on Itunes Store and Amazon. Lost In Carranza is an independent non-profit project, released and available for free on Vimeo. Thanks to Pablo who shared his story from the heart and everyone else who supported and contributed to this film from the beginning. Forever Grateful. - Lost In Carranza, February 2020 -

"What’s the best part of skateboarding life? I think that most of us will answer: landing a new trick. I agree with this one, but what’s the second reason why we love skateboarding? It’s traveling! Going on tour, discovering new spots – especially if you don’t know much about the city that you are going to. In this case, Istanbul was a question mark for all of us. To my eyes, the city with over 15 million inhabitants on two continents is an Oriental version of NYC. Maybe the expression “melting pot” was invented there. Eleven skaters squeezed in a van for nine people, five days in the traffic jam in between beautiful spots. We crossed the bridge from the European to the Asian side a bunch of times. The sound system in the van didn’t work properly, we were only able to listen to the radio. We listened to American music, European artists, and of course local ones. It depended on which radio station or side of the city we were in, but our favorite selection came out of our portable speakers. That’s the reason why we thought about starting our own radio station: Radio Bosforo." Madars Apse | The Story Of Ethiopia's New Skate Scene

Madars Apse | The Story Of Ethiopia's New Skate Scene

For episode four of Skate Tales, Madars Apse hightails it to Ethiopia to meet the skate crew building a scene from scratch in one of the world’s oldest countries. The story of Ethiopia Skate is as real as it gets: from a parking lot in Addis Ababa, Henok Yetbarek, Michael Baheru, Ruel Desta, Babure ‘Babu G’ Teferi, Yeabkal Abraham and Yared Gobezie started a skate movement which would snowball with the help of two American skaters, JT Rhoades and Sean Stromsoe. Within 3 years they would link up with Make Life Skate Life to build Ethiopia’s first free skatepark in the capital, and a year later they would double down on their success by building a second in Awassa. Nowadays Ethiopia Skate has 150 skaters enlisted from around the country, and has registered as a non- profit in the USA meaning they can accept tax- deductible donations to keep their skatehouse open, build more terrain and, as Sean tells Madars ‘create more opportunity through skateboarding’. Madars came by to build and inspire, listen and learn in a beautiful one from the Skate Tales storybook.
