Reviving the Skateboarding Spirit: Vans Europe Presents 'Once More'

Mastering the Art of Repetition: 'Once More' isn't just a skateboarding video; it's a reflection of the essence of skateboarding itself. It beautifully encapsulates the repetitive nature of it - the constant pursuit of new challenges, the unwavering determination to land that elusive trick, and the 'one last try' that keeps skateboarders going. This project, filmed over a year from September 2021 to September 2022 in Athens and Thessaloniki, offers a captivating glimpse into the vibrant Greek skateboarding community. It also showcases the unique urban landscapes of these historic cities, where each street becomes a canvas for skaters to leave their indelible mark. 'Once More' is a celebration of persistence, creativity, and the enduring spirit of skateboarding.

Vans Europe | Check Mate

Vans Europe | Check Mate

Netherlands has flown under the skate radar for years. While Amsterdam usually gets a bit more attention, a lot of people still don’t know that you can take the train and flee the famous canals and cobblestone streets to cross the country in less than 3 hours and skate some modern architecture in Rotterdam, Utrecht or The Hague. In 2021, Vans crew decided to hop on the train to visit all of these modern spots and check out the city’s local scenes. What started out as film with Jip Koorevaar and Tjerk Oosting, quickly turned out to be more than that. Over the course of a year, the crew captured lots of content, with more skaters joining the party – not only for the skating but also for the animations, photos and music. The video evolved into something bigger than just a part and celebrated the wider Dutch Vans skate family.

Vans Europe | Piazzetta

Vans Europe | Piazzetta

Vans Italy is excited to drop Piazzetta – Piazzetta in Italian means “small square”. The plan was for the Italian Vans skate team to visit some of their most-loved home spots, sharing the same ledge where they grew up as skaters. They kicked things off in Milano Centrale, then made their way to Torino’s Piazza Castello. Next up was Bologna’s Memoriale della Shoah and finally wrapped things up in Reggio Emilia’s Piazza Martiri del 7 Luglio. Four different cities with four different colours of marble and cobblestones. The result? A 9 minute ode to the team’s OG spots with a brand-new approach.

Vans Europe | Karelia

Vans Europe | Karelia

Karelia is the name of the geographical area at the North-West of Russia. Some people call this land along the Russian-Finnish border Scandinavia of Russia. Similar nature with large forest areas, numerous lakes, swamps, rivers and fresh summers makes this part of Russia a big destination for hikers, campers, fishermen, mushroom and berry pickers. But how good can it be for skateboarding?

Rough spots of Petrozavodsk and Kondopoga that had been shaped by Soviet architectural traditions and harsh winters provided a unique terrain for improvisation on skateboards. Vans Russia's main division mixed with national flow riders, girls and legends went did another great one for the books.

Vans Europe | Cracow DIY Adventure

Vans Europe | Cracow DIY Adventure

Vans Europe's Polish skate team joined forces with the Skate or Die skateshop crew to rediscover some of their local gems for Cracow DIY Adventure.

One of the silver linings of the travel restrictions was that the guys could spend time exploring the local suburbs of Kraków looking for suitable locations to build DIY spots in less crowded spaces. Accompanied by Barrier Skate Mag, the crew focused on two spots – Kostrze and Myślenice (Sadly the Kostrze spot didn’t last too long. RIP.). Enjoy.

Jeanne Duval | 21. - VANS

Jeanne Duval | 21. - VANS

Sharing the common vision of a purely black and white aesthetic, filmmaker Claudia Lederer followed Vans' French skateboarder, Jeanne Duval, through an urban quest made of lines, curves, simplicity, details, shadows and light. This project is an attempt to transcribe Jeanne’s personal universe, endowed with a discreet personality whose sensitivity is mainly expressed through her skateboarding. Built up like a slow poetic journey, it was filmed Pre-Covid in several cities of France (Paris, Nantes & Biarritz areas). Each spot visited has been picked for its architectural & graphic dimension. 21. is a personal vision of skateboarding.
