A sunny weekend in Barcelona is a tough act to beat, drop in 15 top AMs, a kicking sound system and a concrete skatepark next to the beach and you would be hard pushed to top the finals of the Nike SB Barcelona AM at Skate Agora, Saturday.

The finals format was simple – 5 x 3 man, 3 minute, jam format heats. With only one visit to the park for the skaters there were no opportunities to play around for anyone who was hoping to end the day with a pocket full of prize money.

Mathias Torres from Chile passes by Barcelona every few months and has clearly got feel for local lines, showing smooth flow and smashing an inward heel down the stairs, but the standard was high at the Badalona park. Gustavo Ribeiro, a second place finalist from last year had his eye on taking a step up the podium by bringing home a bigspin fs blunt to fakie down the rail but couldn’t hold the rest of his run together enough to retake a top spot.

Justin Sommer’s skating over the last couple of days showed he was going to make a point and demonstrated the fact by bringing a hard flip front board on the rail to the party and closing down 3rd spot. Last year’s winner Jorge Simoes was back in the final mix, on form and looking good for the double, snapping into a frontside ollie to switch krook on the volcano and taking a bigspin fakie nosegrind to the bump to ledge. Young Tim Debuche, 15 from the south of France, had other plans though, and a 360 flip lipslide to fakie and kick flip to front nose grind on the bank to ledge was enough to turn the judges heads and award him the overall title.
